Rohtang pass on one end and Manali sanctuary on the other end: explore the city of Manali.

Manali is the most sought after hill station in our country and it is a beautiful station in the state of Himachal Pradesh. You can reach Manali either by airways or by roadways. As the area is a hill station so you would get the temperature of 4 degree Celsius to 10 degree Celsius.  It is located in the district of Kullu and it is 270 km away from the capital Shimla. Manali is named after the lawgiver as per the Hindu Mythology and it is believed that Lord Manu recreated human life in this place and an ancient temple of Lord Manu is also situated here. If you dig into the city you would know that the valley was full of nomadic hunters and the shepherds who practiced agriculture and settled over here.  Later this place was occupied by British and they planted Apple trees and till today Apples of Manali are sold throughout the country and considered as the best.

As I have already mentioned that the best thing to do in Manali is the adventure sports like paragliding, ice skiing, river rafting which would be life changing experience. Other than that you must hit the local markets in Mall road which is the best market place of the city.   Here you would find local handicraft items and woolen clothes. Tibet market in the mall road should be visited Kullu shawls and caps. Various Tibetan art items could also be found in the Tibet market. As Manali is famous for the apples, so you should definitely try and buy pickle made up of green apples which taste great. You have a vast variety of sea food available and ‘trout fish’ is the best food.  Apart from the food and regular handicraft items you would also find various Himalayan herbs like kesar and Shilajeet which is known as an anti ageing remedy. So much to do in Manali and still you is at your home. Pack your bags straight away head for Manali.

Rohtang Pass:

Rohtang pass is regarded as one of the coldest region of the country and it is a high mountain pass on the east of Himalayas and 51 km from Manali. The pass in open from the month of May to November. The place is not very high or difficult to cross but it is known to be dangerous because of unpredictable storms and snowfall. People who love adventure must visit Rohtang Pass.

Solang Valley:

On the way to Rohtang Pass you would get another tourist destination which is known as Solang Valley. It is at the top of the Kullu valley and it is generally known for its summer and adventure sports.  It is a paradise for the persons who love adventure sports like Para Gliding, Parachuting and ice Skating. Very few places in India have this type of climate which is suitable for these sports. Horse riding is another adventure which can be enjoyed over here.

Hidimba Devi Temple:

It is temple which was built in the years 1553 and is dedicated to Hidimbi devi who is the sister of Hidimba more about whom can be traced from ancient Hindu epic Mahabharata.  The temple consists of carved wooden doors and a 24 m tall ‘shikhar’ made up of wood and a huge rock is inside the temple and a 3 inch tall brass image of Goddess Hidimbi Devi.

Brhigu Lake:

To the east of Rohtang pass you would find Brhigu Lake which is located at 6 kms. Away from Gulaba village and it can be reached by trekking from the village itself. The lake is named after the famous sage Brighu who according to the legends is said to meditate here and people believe that because of this reason the lakes never freezes completely.

Manali Sanctuary:

It is a sanctuary which is situated aprox. 2 km from Manali and it is a must visit for any of the nature lover. The sanctuary is surrounded by walnut, deodar and maple forests and you can see leopard, brown Beer, snow leopard, Musk deer and many other animals roaming around the 31.8 square km area.
