Haridwar; the perfect place to seek salvation.

Haridwar is an ancient city in the state of Uttarakhand and it is considered as one of the holiest places in hindu religion. The holy river Ganga meets the Indo-Gangetic plains first time at this place. The sacred Mahakumbh is held here in every 12 years. Haridwar draws his history from ancient times. It is also mentioned in Mahabharat that the city holds great religious significance and it is the ultimate place to get salvation. It also serves the starting point for Char Dhaam yatra which is considered sacred among the hindues. It is said that raja man singh of Amber laid the foundation of modern Haridwar. Various age old sages of India have visited this city including Kapila Rishi and Guru Nanak. The city lies between the mountains and is very picturesque. The river Ganga is crystal clear here and surrounds nearly the whole city. The weather is cold here though in summers there is a bit relief.

First and the foremost thing which is to be done in Haridwar is to watch Ganga Arti in Har Ki Paudi which is renowned all over the world. Every evening priest performs the Arti and huge number of people gathers around to sing the praise of River Ganges. Rest if you talk about the markets then most of the products available over here are Religious but you can find unique things like you would easily get a garland of original Rudraksha in local markets. Moti bazaar and Bada bazaar are the two markets known for their products like cane baskets, pickles and Ayurvedic products. There are state govt. owned emporiums too from which you can buy handicraft items, jewellery and religious books. As Haridwar is a holy city so there is only vegetarian food served here. You can order a thali which is a complete diet and you can try puri sabji and other North Indian simple foods. One thing which you would find In Haridwar is Bal Mithai. Which is a sweet dish made up of roasted khoya and small sugar balls sprinked over it. This sweet is my personal favorite and whenever you try do remember me.

This is a famous Ghat along the river Ganges in Haridwar and it is a major landmark of the city. Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu have said to have come in this place in the ancient times and even the footprints of Lord Vishnu are believed to be here on a stone wall. It is believed at this very place Ganges leaves the mountains and enters the plains. During the time of Kumbh mela thousands of pilgrims visit this place.

This temple is located on the top of a hill named Bhilwa Parvat. The temple has the statue of Goddess Mansa Devi and she is the deity of the temple. The temple is highly valued among hindus as it is one of the siddhpeeths. The devotees form all over the country walk upto the hill and seek the blessings of Devi.

This is a hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and it is located in the town of Kankhal near Haridwar. The temple was built by queen Dhanukar in 1810 and it was rebuilt in the year 1962. The temple holds a long mythological history as Sati burned herself at this place because her father Daksh (on whose name the temple is) did not invite Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva got angry and beheaded Daksha. This temple also holds great significance among hindus.

It is a temple dedicated to Goddess Chandi Devi in Haridwar. The temple is situated on the top of Neel parvat on the Sivalik Hills. This temple was built in the year 1929 by Suchat Singh. The temple is also known as Neel parvat Teerth. This temple is also considered as Siddhpeetha located within this range along with Maya devi and Mansha Devi. This temple is one of the oldest of India and thousands of devotees flock in Navratri and Kumbh to visit this temple.

This temple is last of the siddhpeetha of this region including Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Maya and she is the Adshishthatri deity of Haridwar. The temple boasts of its presence since 11th century which is intact including Bhairav Temple and Narayana Shila. The temple as usual with the other Siddhpeetha is visited by many pilgrims during the festivals.
