The Rainy city of India: Dehradun.

Dehradun is a popular tourist destination and is situated in the state of Uttarakhand. Dehradun is the doon valley on the foothills of Himalayas and lies between holy river Ganges and Yamuna river. It is well connected to tourist destination such as Mussoorie, Nainital and Hrishikesh. Dehradun is well known for India’s best schools and prestigious institutes such as Indian Military Academy. Other institutes include Indian institute of petroleum, Forest research institute and ONGC. The importance of Dehradun is very high in terms of religion. Lord Rama and Laxman are said to visit here. Also it is believed that Guru Dronacharya was born and resided here. Pandit Nehru was very fond of this place and often came to stay here. Dehradun is well connected to Road, rail and airways and it can be very easily reached from any part of the country. The climate over here is cold and it receives a lot of rainfall and thus it is also called wettest state capital.

Dehradun is not only a splendid place for sightseeing but also the city is regarded as a shopping hub for the tourists. You can get items of daily use as well as antiques here and at the same tine fill your belly with the delicious food. Best shopping destination in Dehradun is Connaught place where you can spot earrings, handicrafts, jewellary at cheap rates. Another market which is there in almost all the hill stations is Tibetan Market. Woolen garments and wooden items are the best buy from here and you can enjoy Momos and the Chinese dishes at the small eateries over here. Rajpur road is another market place which is full of retail branded showrooms and local shops which are full of textiles and wooden items. As far as fooding is concerned you can find all types of food in the city but the specialty would be Momos and Baal-Mithai which is a sweet made up of burnt milk and sugar.

This temple is also known as Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple and it is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is just 6 km away from the town and it is the most popular pilgrimage in the town. The main Shivalinga is inside a natural cave and the most interesting thing is there is a continuous downpour of water on Shivalinga through the ceiling of the cave. Travelers and pilgrims from all over the country come here to seek blessings of lord Shiva.

This is a natural river cave formed approximately 8 kms away from the main city. The cave is more than 600 m long and is divided into two main parts. This place is a popular tourist spot and it is under the control of Uttarakhand State government.

This is another destination 15km away from the city of Dehradun. It is said that Santala devi along with her brother realized that they would not be able to face Mughal army and started to pray to god and within few moments they were transformed into the stones. Their shrine was built at this place and since then they are worshipped by several people.

It is a reserved national park located within the 3 districts namely Haridwar, Dehradun and pauri Garhwal and it is spread over an area of 820km.in the year 1983 3 wildlife sanctuaries were merged into one and thus Rajaji national park came into being. This park lies between Shivalik ranges and Indo Gangetic plains and it consists of various animals like Asian elephant, Goral, jackal, king cobra and many more.

Tiger falls is a magnificent location to visit. This waterfall is the highest waterfall in the entire state and if you go trekking upto it as there is a walkway of 2 km to reach the destination, then it is even more adventurous. Like any other waterfall it may seen ordinary at the beginning but as you approach closer the magic uncovers.

This temple is 12 km distant from the city of Dehradun and it is one of the most respected temples of the region. It is the cremation site of holy saint swami Laxman Siddh and on every Sunday huge number of devotees comes to worship the popular saint. You can visit Harrahwala either by bus or taxi and then it’s a 1 km trek toward the temple.
