Ahmedabad or popularly known as Amdavad is one of the largest city and former capital of the state of Gujarat. Gujarat is one of the richest states of the country and majority of people are businessmen here. It lies on the banks of river Sabarmati and it experiences semi –arid climate which means less rainfall. Ahmedabad is a major industrial and economic city of India. The city came into being in 11th century and at that time it was known as Ashaval. Karandev 1 attacked Ashaval and established a city known as Karnavati . Gujarat came under the Delhi Sultanate in 14th century. In the year 1573 Akbar conquered Ahmedabad and then started the golden time of the city. It emerged as the major center of textile trade which was exported to as far as Europe. During the independence movement, the city witnessed a major center as Mahatma Gandhi established Sabarmati Ashram over here and various events like Salt Satyagaraha, salt Dandi March, quit India Movement was witnessed by the city.

There are various things to do in Ahmedabad. As it is one of the richest cities of India so the people of this city are quite big hearted and love to enjoy and party. The shopping in the city of Ahmedabad is the next big thing. You can buy local garments like ghagra choli, kurta and many more things. The law garden night market is one such place. The market comes alive at night and the clothes which are sold in this market live up to the latest trends and it is especially for the women. If you are fond of jewellary, then manek Chowk is the right place for you and this market is famous for its jewellary. Now we come to my favorite topic which is food. You have a lot to full your belly in this city. Gujarati thali is one of the best options. The people of Gujarat are fond of eating and they have given the world some of the best snacks namely, Khakra, thepla, Dhokla, dalwada and many more. Khakra is another dish available throughout the city which is just awesome.

This is the major center of attraction of the city and it is located in the Sabarmati suburb of the city. This was the residence of Mahatma Gandhi and his wife for 12 years. The Ashram now has a museum and other buildings are a prayer ground, Nandini which is a visitor house and a library which has more than 35 k books of freedom fight, Gandhiji’s life and the related subjects.

It is the biggest lake in the city of Ahmedabad and is situated in the area of Maninagar. It has an area around the lake which has a zoo which is one of the largest in Asia; it has a water park which consists of water rides and joy rides. It is one of the most picturesque places in the city and at the time of evenings huge number of people come here to enjoy.

It is one of the most premier cricket stadiums of India and it is located in Motera area and it is often known as Motera stadium. Earlier it was known as Gujarat stadium but afterwards the name was changed to the present name. It has sitting capacity of 54000 spectators and was the host to many matches of world cup 2011. Several records have been made here as Sunil Gavaskar was the first cricketer to score 10000 runs in test cricket on this ground and Kapil Dev took his 432nd wicket here which made him the highest wicket taker in the world.

This is a famous museum dedicated to Sardar Vallabbhbhai patel in moti shahi mahal in the shahibaug area of the city. Moti Shahi mahal was built by Shah Jahan in the year 1622. Vallabbhbhai memorial is located on the ground floor of the building. The hall depicts the pictures of his family, friends, colleagues, freedom fighters. Newspaper cuttings, his rare pictures which signify that he was a true fighter are also present here. Even his clothes and personal belongings are kept preserved here for the visitors.

It is bridge located in the city which connect eastern and western part of the city across the Sabarmati river. In was built in the year 1892 by an Indian engineer and was named after Sir Barrow Elbert Ellis. The original steel bridge was narrow and did not allow for heavy vehicles to pass so it was closed down in the year 1997 and in 1999 a new concrete bridge was built supporting the steel bridge so the heritage bridge could remain protected.

This Lake is in the western part of Ahmedabad. The lake underwent renovation and was beautified in the year 2002 and since then it has become a tourist spot. During every weekend you would see hundreds of people visiting this lake. In present time the lake has a open air theatre and a children’s park which attracts a lot of kids and their parents. A pathway is built all around the lake to facilitate walkers and joggers.
